Home Alone Ad

An ad by Google for their new and advanced home system, features Kevin McCallister from the Home Alone series, in the same house. However, he can now convieniently use google home to do whatever he needs, from turning on the fire place, to ordering food automatically. This shows how they play on the viewers emotions, by using a reference to a classic Christmas movie, which makes the viewer relate the google home to a part of their upbringing as well. It basically shows how google home can be a helpful assistant but also a part of your family at the same time. Also, the fact that they  released the ad around Christmas shows they thought it through. They used cheerful background music which creates a merry feel to the atmosphere, a warmer feeling. To add, the camera angle was always centered on McCallister, a ‘just like old times’ feel.

Spotify produced a new advertisement called "I'm With The Banned" which depicts the stories of six musician migrants from the countries which have travel bans placed by President Trump. The short two minute video quickly tells a story of some of the migrants and how music lead them to arrive in Toronto to collaborate with other artists. I think they specifically advertised this in California because we have a strong disliking to Trump, and this video is a small piece of validation for that, they basically played on our emotions. The background music which encompasses a glimpse of each person and the diversity they bring along with them. Also I think they used the immigrants because they portray more than just what our government perceives their citizens to be like. PETA Advertisement

Following the holidays, an advertisement was recently produced by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) showing how animals, which are widely gifted around the world during Christmas season, are not to be treated as products. This is because often times the animal is given to someone who is unable to take care of it, or they just don't want it period. This ad contained inspiring Christmas music in the background, conveying feelings of warmth, and then the camera pans to a fake illuminated dog who is tied to a pole on the side of the highway. It causes the audience to realize that this is an issue, because it definitely had that effect on me. Not only can it spread awareness, but it may actually spark one's failed conscious. I believe this ad will be successful because of the placement. Since it has been placed right before the holiday season, people are more in their senses about giving and taking.
